Often, I Wish I Never Left

m
Orchid lips pout overfull
words unhinge and spill
champagne bubbles over
day's dwindling cigarettes
m
The porch-lights dim as
evening comes in
rain-laced pearls
leave midnight to
tremble as we speak
m
Shoulders strain to break
under minute's weight
against this backdrop
m
we pray
m
we make
m
Our bodies wrapped in cotton
our breath etched in gold
fingerprint your memory across my skin
for suns leave them cold
